WHAT WHIPLASH TREATMENT SHOULD YOU EXPECT AT THE CHIROPRACTOR?

We treat many auto accident injuries at Columbia Gorge Chiropractic and Auto Injury, and whiplash is one of them. What is whiplash, exactly? It’s when slamming on the brakes, a fender bender, or other collision causes your neck to move too fast in two directions. That can lead to:

  • Neck pain
  • Shoulder pain
  • Arm pain
  • Lower back pain
  • Ringing sounds
  • Unclear vision
  • Memory and focusing issues
  • Exhaustion
  • Irritability

Now that you know what whiplash is, you might be curious about the treatment method. Below, we’ll cover the different whiplash treatment methods so that you know what to expect. (As always, if you need to see a car accident chiropractor, we are here to help you!)

MOST COMMON WHIPLASH TREATMENT METHODS

In case you weren’t aware, chiropractic care offers many benefits for whiplash pain. Below are a few common whiplash treatment methods:

#1: FLEXION-DISTRACTION METHOD

One of the hard parts about whiplash is that it can reposition the joints in your neck. As you might expect, that can be painful. But your pain doesn’t have to go on forever. One of the ways we can help is with the flexion-distraction method, which involves putting the joints back where they’re supposed to go and fixing any existing herniated discs.

The good news is that these adjustments are pain-free. We don’t want to cause you more pain when you’re already in pain from your injury. What we will do is realign the joints while simultaneously adjusting the table so that your body is in the right position. That will allow us to decrease any tension in your body, realign the body, and much more.

#2: MUSCLE STIMULATION

Another challenge with whiplash is that it can get in the way of your range of motion. We can help with this whiplash symptom by stimulating and stretching out the muscles to help you relax again. These stretches are painless and low impact. In fact, they are designed to help with your overall pain and boost mobility.

As we’re stretching out the muscles, we may add more pressure if needed to take down any muscle tension. We’re glad to adjust the pressure level at any time if you deem it necessary.

#3: TRIGGER POINT THERAPY

Whiplash can contribute to pain throughout the body, from your neck to your hands, arms, and so forth. One of the things that can help is trigger point therapy.

This technique works on any knots or tight points in the muscles. We’ll add pressure, similar to a deep tissue massage, on your trigger points to ease any tension. We’ll also be sure to get your feedback during this technique and make adjustments if needed.
